From the spiral wire binding
Caused not from artificial light
It’s this morning’s sun, quite blinding

Three men in a zodiac
Are launching from the edge
Of the pulsing incoming
Tides fill lagoon that will be dredged

Another three sip their coffee
Shuffling through the sand
Overhead small aircraft whines
A pleasure flight takes the grandstand

Sail ship is anchored out
A half-mile from the shore
Mist on rise into the skies
Pelicans lift, fly south to score

Bolinas Ridge draped in fog
And it is lifting too
Melting there into thin air
The burning sun cooks the blue

Chop-chop entering
The channel ocean races
Bo lagoon’s got lots of room
Eleven hundred acres

Light wind
Breaks the chop up
Gull on the sea wall
On me, he’s crept up

Sneaky peek
Toward me he creeps
Note red dot
Upon his chop

Lazy overcast
Looks like it may last
Through the day, anyway
This gull’s now walking past

Soon there’s three starin’ at me
One has jumped on my hood
Waddles back and forth, peering
Through the windshield, looks  for food

Right here today,  on the Bo Bay

First I hear is Jane
Bo’s dear, in conversation
Talkin’ in the shade
Echoes ‘cross our nation

Bo Lagoon is sucking dry
No kidding, barren land
Twenty dozen swimmin’ holes
Appearing in the sand

From here on the bench
Few dimples grace the channel
A whiff of ocean stench
Wafting wet-dog flannel

Across the dunes doggies roam
One local bakes her feet
Firing rays into the days
Solar heats so sweet

Waves a-move
Currents groove
While seals ride
The flows inside

of right here today,  on the Bo Bay

Running late
Out the gate
This couldn’t wait
Tho it’s past eight

BoStin channel’s bright
Sun’s hot in my eyes
A seagull starts his flight
Canoe’s a tubular surprise

Gull on wall
Tells it all
Sit and brood
Folks will bring food

Blarin’ burnin’
Sun’s a churnin’
Water too
In sky blue

School is new
Starts today
Education to
Make poets one day

Right here today
On the Bo Bay

Out the door
Fuzzy air
Drive to the shore
Air’s fuzzy there

On the way
On a fence rail
Five crows sway
Flash shiny black tails

Crows fly in two’s, I think
Another pops in from the drink
There sit six by drained lagoon
Gearing up to croon a tune

It’s misty drizzle in this cloud
This one is on the ground
In seconds windshield’s a-shroud
Overhead jet engine sound

One lone peli glides on in
From out to sea somewhere
A slowing plane is heard again
All inside the fuzzy air,  of

Cool the air
Up my shorts
Like ships from sea
Sails them to ports

Misty sky
Above the beach
A pelican soars
So close that I reach

Too far too high
It’s a pipe dream
Like a pizza parlor organ
Fog horn blares,  unseen

In and about the channel
Not another bird in sight
Probably out fishin’
Anchovy appetite delight

Softly hear the waves
Surfers ride the crests
Two-mile surf is the turf
For riding ocean breasts

On the beach
Big as day
Sheriff’s car
Bold display

Gate removed from the ramp
Huge “Explorer”…white with green
Driven by a driven scamp
Spins a “U”ey,  stops to preen

Steps onto the pristine sand
Shoulders back,  starts the strut
A sort of licensed ‘one man band’
Hell-bent to roust those campers up

One is walking,  half-asleep
Others doze, unaware
Talkin’ loudly, indiscreet
Staunchly there, Smokey the Bear

Guess mid-summer’s settled in
Folks, by law, must abide
Camps on the beach are in arms reach
Yet inappropriate…that ride

Right here today,  on the bo bay

Parked along the seawall
Wharf Road at the end
Smells of sealife in the air
Wafting as I round the bend

A woman front of Smiley’s
Beating on a car
Shouting out obscenities
Song lyrics ‘bout a bar

Rubber neckers in delight
Wait for her to strike again
By then the red car races off
Plops on the bench, major chagrin

Brighter never is the sun
On Bo Beach by the bay
Dancing crystals prance about
Heat to grow,  hear it say…

“Hi,  I’m here,  do you feel me?”
El Sol might say, who knows?
‘You’re darn tootin!’,  I’d reply
Warming all from head to toes

Right here today,  on the bo bay

arrived late
moving slow
was going to skate
fill in the blank

campers wear flannel
some bearin’ grins
by the BoStin channel
mid-stream…pelicans

bobbing synchronized
they’ve got anchovy locked-in
so full they can’t fly
waitin’ for digestion

gulls tag along
up ‘n down peli’s flap
lifting bodies weigh a ton
a hundred wings…slap, slap, slap

others stay,  more arrive
guard their bounty,  floating
two dozen group to show their size
fat pelicans sit gloating
