Bo Bay Today

“When the frost is on the pumpkin”
A phrase for fall not spring
Only one season, so out of reason
Biting on my ear it stings

Double-engined roaring by
Out to pick up pots
Crabs they crawl, in traps then brawl
Pincher-defense is all they got

Raging heat through the cool
Bouncing off the blue
Solar blast today will last
Sending cool back to school!

In my right ear, ocean waves
In my left, jet engine whine
Down Wharf Road folks unload
One says “that’s not yours, it’s mine”

First gulls of the day begin
Stinson side, by water’s edge
Squawk ‘n walk ‘n talk ‘n grin
Cheer our radio springtime pledge

Bo Bay Today

Those feet-first landings
On BoStin channel wide
Gray ceiling, cormorants reeling
Ride incoming tide

Puffy gulls sittin’ near
On Wharf seawall grand
Stare at me, food probably
They’ll get from my hand

Not unlike their babes, for real
Who tap on the red dot
Small seal, called a gonydeal
On yellow beak…a soup hot spot!

Wanderin’ early, walkers roam
Fog lifts beyond the crunch
Quick waves fall, four in all
Helps make little critter’s lunch

Yep, you guessed, both gulls still there
Starin’ back at me
‘Neath cool skies, they tell no lies
There’s always eats by the sea

Bo Bay Today

First sun peeks over Mt. Tam
Illuminates the wavecrests first
Where the groin sign stands
Waves snatch the light, ah, quenched thirst!

Four folks walk dog on Stinson
Talk large, one’s in charge
Blah, blah, blah…benumbs
An Army sarge info barge

Of course the squawking gulls emit
Sufferin’ in the morning? Nah
As we see lit mountain tip
Heats chilled noses, yeah

Amazing warm floods sublime
On Wharf Road, first time today
Gulls finally in squawk-rhyme
Bo Bay falls crash far away

Out there surfers cut-the-curl
Bet they like the brand new sun
Warms their booties, and their cuties
On the coast where Spring’s begun

Bo Bay Today

Phewt phewt phewt (end flight)
Scares hell outta me
Look down to write, yeah, right?
Two gulls land…flap, shriek ‘n pee

Bright blasters, sunlight’s dance
Across the vast open sea
Blares on eyes, ‘neath babe blue skies
Can’t get this on your TV!

Quick check by the Rod and Boat
We’ve only four fisher’s left
Commercially, tough to float
Big guys rake, leave rest bereft

Drag ocean bottoms miles away
Reap big scores of this and that
Kill years each day, ain’t no hay
Unchecked we kill ourselves, SPLAT!

But in Bo, morning’s pretty
Cool ‘n crisp ‘n light
There’s no out-there, ‘cept the city
Gull ‘n me view tight bright sight

Bo Bay Today

Clouds are blackenin’
En masse, dim light
Lookin’ west, they’re packin’ in
Morn’s a-move from day to night

Met on wall, two seagulls
Same show every week
Mumblin’ to themselves, then yells
Count three toes on pink-webbed feet

Statued Egrets’ babies feed
In the channel, draining s l o w
Scurrying current fills their needs
A surfaced seal’s nose-a-blow!

Ocean kwell, nary a swell
White statues bound stoically
Forefronted by the sitting gulls
Folks chat on Stinson…crowically

In ten short minutes
The black clouds have moved
After shrouding the bo bay
Radiant sunbeams spill through

Onto right here today
On the bo bay

Bo Bay Today 2/20/08

February 20, 2008 7A.M.

dark and dank, the bay

man, black clouds, sooo thick

not a shorebird, no way, nay

in rain, on rock, seagull schtick

shades of gray, skies drop drops

jet engine roar tugs ears

slam ‘n plop on my roof top

pummelin’ so I can’t hear

crammin’ jammin’ waterfalls

awash on sands and streets

rainy session in our halls

puddles deep, no songbird tweets

standin’ tall, all alone

the friendly gull starts to preen

on a rock, with head a-cock

a water-off-a-gulls-back scene

knows my motor, lands in time

to get some thing to eat

drenched in rain, food’s why he came

toss some bread, drive up the street
